Astro website development for fast business sites

Astro builds your pages ahead of time and sends visitors almost no JavaScript, so content sites load quickly and give an attacker little to work with. We design and build Astro websites for businesses, and kryloweb.com is one of them.

Discuss an Astro build
01

What Astro is good for

Astro suits sites that are mostly content: company websites, service pages, portfolios, blogs and documentation. Pages are built once, ahead of time, and served as plain files from a CDN, so there is no database or PHP to run on every visit.

What's included

  • Business and brand websites
  • Service and landing pages
  • Blogs and documentation
  • Portfolios and case studies
02

Speed and search

Astro sends JavaScript only where a page needs it, so pages stay small and load quickly on a phone. Google measures speed as Core Web Vitals on real visits. We build for those scores from the first line of code and test them before launch.

What's included

  • Core Web Vitals checks (LCP, INP and CLS)
  • Static HTML pages with little JavaScript
  • Clean markup, sitemaps and structured data
  • Image and font handling
03

Editing your content

A static site needs somewhere to keep its content. For a few pages, the content lives in the code and we update it for you. When your own team needs to edit pages, we connect a headless CMS, so editors get an ordinary editing screen and the site stays static.

What's included

  • Content kept in code for small sites
  • A headless CMS chosen with you
  • Editing screens set up around your pages
04

Moving to Astro

We move existing sites to Astro from WordPress and other platforms. The content, the page addresses and the redirects come with you, so the search rankings the old site earned carry over to the new one.

What's included

  • WordPress to Astro migration
  • Content and media transfer
  • Redirects and page addresses preserved
  • Static hosting setup and deployment

Astro or WordPress?

Choose Astro when a developer or agency looks after the site, the pages are mostly content, and speed and security matter. Choose WordPress when several non-technical people edit content every day, or you need plugins for something like memberships. We build on both, so the recommendation depends on how your team works.

kryloweb.com is built on Astro. You can run any page on it through Google's PageSpeed Insights or view its source, and judge the result for yourself.

A typical Astro project from us includes the design, the build, a page template for each kind of page, a sitemap and structured data, image and font handling, a staging site to review, deployment to static hosting, and a handover so you can run it. If you need a CMS, a blog or a store alongside it, we scope that at the start so nothing is bolted on late.

Common questions

What is Astro?
Astro is an open-source web framework for content-driven sites. It builds pages to static HTML ahead of time and loads JavaScript only for the parts of a page that need it.
Is Astro good for SEO?
It gives you full control over titles, headings, structured data, sitemaps and page speed, and all of those affect search. It doesn't rank a site by itself. Content and links still do the ranking.
Can I edit an Astro website myself?
Yes, if we connect a headless CMS. Your team edits pages in a normal editing screen and the site rebuilds with the changes. For a small site you can also send us changes and we make them.
Can you move my WordPress site to Astro?
Yes. We keep the content, the page addresses and the redirects, so the new site keeps the search visibility the old one earned. Whether to move at all is a choice we'll talk through first, because WordPress is the better fit for some sites.
How much does an Astro website cost?
About what a custom site costs on any platform, because most of the price is design, content and integrations rather than the framework. Hosting is usually cheaper, since static files need little from a server. We quote a fixed price once we know the pages and features.
Is an Astro website secure?
A static site has no database or login to attack, and the server only sends files, so the usual WordPress risks of outdated plugins and exposed admin pages don't apply. You still need sensible hosting, and any forms or integrations need their own care.
Do you build on anything besides Astro?
Yes. We build on WordPress and Shopify too, and in custom code when a project needs it. We recommend one based on what your site has to do.
